- Why Ashley
Dr. Ashley grew up in Nelson County, Virginia and graduated from Nelson County High School in 1996. She attended Virginia Tech, where she graduated summa cum laude and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition. After completing her Bachelor’s, Dr. Ashley completed four years of dental school at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), School of Dentistry. She graduated magna cum laude and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree. After graduation, Dr. Ashley continued her education at VCU and completed a one-year advanced residency program in general dentistry. She was then accepted to the nationally recognized University of Connecticut Orthodontic Residency Program in Farmington, Connecticut. She received an additional three years of orthodontic training and earned a postdoctoral Certificate in Orthodontics and a Master of Dental Science (MDS).
Outside of her passion for transforming smiles and lives, Dr. Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband, Andy, her daughters, Stella and Libby, her son, Henry and their Newfoundland, Darla. She and her husband both attended Nelson County High School, where it was well known among their friends that she had a very big “crush” on him. Although they had not spoken in over 15 years, they reconnected right before Dr. Ashley moved back to the area and began practicing with Dr. Dwyer. They were married on January 1, 2011 and welcomed “honeymoon” baby Stella into the world on Sepetember 23, 2011. They soon after welcomed another bundle of joy into their family on June 24, 2013, baby girl Libby Marie. Most recently, they have welcomed their son Henry to their growing family.
